Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government has withdrawn a circular for providing 75 units of free electricity per month to BPL card holders belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
An order defining the criteria for selecting the scheme’s beneficiaries was announced on August 24. The Energy Department claimed that the rules needed to be simplified because they were too complex.
The August 24 circular has been withdrawn immediately to further simplify procedures, Informed the Energy Department.
According to the circular, eligible beneficiaries are not permitted to use more than 250 units of electricity per month. Beneficiaries must produce documents such as a customer ID number, a rental or lease agreement, and proof of residence.
