Bengaluru: A day after the centre said that inter-state transport can be opened with consent between the states, Karnataka, on Monday decided to ban entry of people from states like Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, till May 31.
The Centre has extended the nationwide lockdown to May 31 and said that movement of passengers would be allowed only with mutual consent between the states during the fourth phase.
Laying out the plan for Lockdown 4.0, CM BS Yediyurappa, on Monday made this announcement.
Keeping in mind the fact that the states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat have been witnessing spike in number of COVID-19 positive cases, Karnataka has taken the decision of prohibiting the entry of people from four states including Kerala.
Kerala has successfully managed to flatten the curve, but for safety reasons Karnataka has decided to ban entry of people from neighbouring state of Kerala too.
It may be recalled that Karnataka had faced criticism after it closed its border at Talapady in Mangaluru due to the Corona crisis, leaving the people from Kasargod in Kerala in lurch as they were predominantly depending on Mangaluru for medical care facilities.
Karnataka’s corona positive cases reached 1231 mark on Monday morning with 84 new cases.
