Kannada Rajyotsava: Heritage and achievements celebration

Bengaluru: Today, we celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava, commemorating Karnataka’s statehood, which was formally established in 1956. Karnataka is renowned for its rich religious, cultural, and historical heritage. Originally named Mysore State, it was officially renamed Karnataka in 1973.

Kannada Rajyotsava, observed annually on November 1, marks the creation of Karnataka on November 1, 1956. This significant day is cherished by Kannadigas, symbolizing the unification of all Kannada-speaking regions in South India to form the state of Karnataka. The Rajyotsava Award, bestowed by the Government of Karnataka, plays a vital role in this celebration.

In the spirit of Karnataka’s 67th anniversary, the state government has made it compulsory to include songs composed by five distinguished poets from the state as part of the Rajyotsava festivities.

The recipients of the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award for 2023 have been officially revealed. These accomplished individuals and organizations were selected during a committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. In celebration of the 68th Karnataka Rajyotsava, a total of 68 individuals and 10 organizations have been honored with awards this year.

A diverse range of categories, encompassing music, dance, film, theatre, sculpture, painting, handicrafts, Yakshagana, Bayalata, folklore, social service, administration, medicine, literature, education, sports, judiciary, environment, media, science and technology, freedom fighters.
