Bengaluru: The Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal at Baiyappanahalli in Bengaluru, which resembles the Bengaluru airport, will be finally opened to the public on Monday June 6, with the first train to Ernakulam, Kerala, departing at 7.00 pm.
The terminal is opened to the public a year after completion by the Constructions Division of the South Western Railway Zone.
The SMVB-Ernakulam Triweekly Express (Train no. 12684) will leave the station first, departing from Platform One.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to formally inaugurate the Rs. 314 Crore Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal in Byappanahalli, which has been waiting for a grand opening for the past 14 months. The new terminal, which was approved in 2015-16, has been late numerous times. The terminal was expected to be finished in December 2018, but it was not until March 2021 that it was finally completed.
The city’s existing Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) and Yesvantpur railway stations are planned to be decongested by the third coaching terminal.
