Bengaluru: Young Dalit leader from Gujarat, Mr. Jignesh Mevani who successfully mobilised the oppressed classes against the atrocities of upper castes in Gujarat following an attack by cow vigilantes on Dalit youths who were transporting cows is on his second visit to the state now. Mr. Mevani who famously coined the statement ‘Keep the cow tail for yourself, give us land’, will take part in the Tumakuru Chalo campaign organised by various Dalit organisations on Thursday.
It can be recalled that Mr. Mevani had visited Udupi city on October 16,2016 to participate in the Udupi Chalo which was organised to press for the right to food.
Dalit organisations have organised Tumakuru Chalo on Thursday in protest against increasing incidents of attack on Dalits across the state including recent incident of an attack on Mr.
Abhishek, a 16-year-old Dalit student of Gubbi town of the district was beaten for allegedly liking a girl from backward class by her parents and relatives. Mr. Mevani will address the gathering in support for their demand which include action against all the accused beside various other demands of Dalits including land and housing for all.
Mr. Mevani will stay back in Bengaluru city till Saturday and is expected to hold several rounds of debate with like-minded leaders and organisations.
