Javadekar to oversee Karnataka assembly polls

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday appointed Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar incharge of Karnataka assembly elections, with Power Minister Piyush Goyal as his deputy.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has been given the charge of Gujarat assembly elections.

Besides, Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Nirmala Sitharaman and P.P. Chaudhary have been made co-incharges to assist Jaitley in the crucial elections, the party announced.

The party also announced the appointment of Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot as the incharge of Himachal Pradesh assembly elections.

The assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh are likely to be held later this year or early next year.
