Bengaluru: In a big boost to the state, the Central Government has agreed to release Rs 1,150 crores to Karnataka under the Jal Jeevan Mission. This project is being implemented with equal contribution from the state government and the Centre (50-50).

An announcement in this regard was made by Union water resources minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat after a video call with Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.

He requested the CM to complete all the drinking water projects by 2023.

According to the authorities, under the scheme, tap water connections will be provided to 15 lakh families.

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa, water resources minister Ramesh Jarakiholi, Chief Secretary TM Vijaya Bhaskar, and other officials were present during the meeting.

According to sources, during the meeting, Yediyurappa appealed to the Centre to clear all the obstacles for the Mekedaatu project in Chamarajanagar. This project will come up across the river Cauvery. Tamil Nadu is opposing the project saying as it fears that it will eat into its share of the Cauvery water.
