Bengaluru: One of the allegations against the private hospitals at the time of Covid 19 outbreak was that they exploited the public by imposing a huge charge. Adding to that there are complaints that medical seat rates were increased and sold for black money. Now a raid by the IT department on 12 medical colleges may prove these two serious allegations.
On February 17, the Income Tax department officials from New Delhi and Mumbai conducted a raid on 12 medical colleges in the state. At the time of raids, Rs.5 crores was found in the bed room of a medical college owner. A huge quantity of gold was recovered from the officials of trusts running these colleges besides unaccounted cash running to crores of rupees.
According to the sources, the raids were carried out using 50 Innova SUVs. These SUVs were hired in the disguise of a marriage party in Mysuru.
According to the sources, IT department found a lot of discrepancies in the accounts maintained in the college managements. Sources pointed out that fake medical bills were generated rampantly to dupe the patients and the government agencies who reimburse the payment under various schemes.
The medical colleges are yet to issue any clarification on the raids.
