Bengaluru: In a major reshuffle of IPS officers, Sonia Narang, the IPS officer who exposed a major scam in the Lokayukta office has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).
The official announcement came despite rumours that the IPS officer who was not in good terms with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will not be given any important posting.
She has been posted in the Crime Investigation Department (CID), which is handling several high profile cases like the assassination of rationalist writer Dr. M.M. Kalburgi, rape case allegations against the seer of Sri Ramachandrapura Math Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami, multi crore scams involving BBMP, BDA and other sensitive cases.
Earlier, following reports that Siddaramaiah had disclosed in the legislative assembly that the IPS officer, who was then the Commandant of KSRP first battalion, was facing charges of helping illegal mining, Sonia Narang held a press meet and clarified that she never worked in the areas where illegal mining was being done and the question of helping or encouraging illegal mining does not arise at all.
For several reasons there were rumours that the IPS officer will not be given key post but it has been proven wrong with the government giving Narang, who exposed corruption in Lokayukta officer, another key post.
