Injured Saalumarada Thimmakka struggles for non-covid bed in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Saalumarada Thimmakka, environmentalist has suffered injuries after a fall and has been now forced to take treatment at home as she has been unable to get a hospital bed in city.

The centenarian known for planting hundreds of Banyan tree had a fall in her bathroom 15 days ago. She was immediately taken to Mani Hospital in Hassan for first aid and then to Apollo Hospital in Bengaluru. However, unable to get a non-Covid bed and returned home as doctors ruled out fracture.

Currently, Thimmakka is staying at stepson Umesh’s house in Belur, Hassan. Umesh said that Thimmakka needs at least a week’s stay in hospital. Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa also had called to enquire about her health and assured to instruct the district administration to make medical aarngements. Following CM’s assurance, the deputy commissioner has sent two nurses on Thursday May 6.
