Bengaluru: State government’s decision to name the proposed subsidised canteen scheme after former prime minister Indira Gandhi has not gone down well with many. On Thursday, several like-minded organisations launched an online campaign demanding scrapping of this proposal and naming the scheme after Akka Mahadevi, one of the greatest Vachana writer.
This online campaign was launched with the hashtag #IndiraBedaAkkaBeku. Campaign was launched both on Facebook and Twitter. One of the main demands of the campaign was that Akka Mahadevi was the pioneer of Jnana Dasoha (sharing of knowledge). So, her name is more appropriate than the name of Indira Gandhi for the scheme which primarily aimed at making Bengaluru hunger-free.
Another major demand put up by the activists was that all the schemes launched by the state government must be named by the achievers from the state only instead of national leaders.
