Bengaluru: In a first, Karnataka elections 2018 will have an anthem. The election anthem is aimed at promoting ethical voting and also to boost the voter turnout.
The anthem is being directed by ace director Yogaraj Bhat. Interestingly, Yogaraj Bhat is penning the lyrics for the anthem. As Bhat has a penchant for catchy lyrics (as most of the songs penned by him have turned out to be a chartbuster), this election anthem is expected to be a big hit and reach out to every voter in the state. For the purpose of the election anthem, the Karnataka State Election Commission has got a dream team in place. The song will be composed by numero uno music director Harikrishna and sung by top singer Vijay Prakash and his team. The songs will be choreographed by well-known dance director Imran Sadiya.
The election anthem is being shot across Karnataka for the last few days. On Friday, the song was shot at Kanteerava stadium and Vidhana Soudha. Hundreds of various cultural artistes from across Karnataka participated in the song shoot. Speaking on the occasion, Bhat said, “The credit of the election anthem should go to Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar who was instrumental in getting an anthem for the elections. We are also using disabled, Adivasi, transgender and young voters for the election song shoot.”
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjiv Kumar said the election anthem was in tune with the commission’s theme-Inclusive, Accesible & Ethical elections. “We have been researching for the project for some time. The anthem will play a major role in promoting enlightened and ethical voting and this will also help in encouraging voters to come out in large numbers and boost the voter turnout. The song will be played on radio, TV, cinemas and other media,” he said.
Yogaraj Bhat was quite kicked up about taking up the project. “To be honest, this project is very close to my heart. For several years, I was yearning to do something for the society and democracy and the election anthem is just my dream come true. This anthem is also a unique concept to education people as it may be difficult to motivate people through direct speech because we all have very short memories. However, lyrics always catch our attention and stays in our mind for a longer time. This is the reason why many people remember film songs so easily. I hope the election anthem will be remembered by everyone and remind them of clean elections.”
