Bengaluru: The on-going CBI investigation on illegal lottery scam has revealed that some senior officials had registered a false case against Pari Rajan, who is named as the prime accused in the case. The revelation is likely to spell trouble for the officals involved.
According to a report in DC, an offical said, “The CBI team, after launching the probe, took the details of all cases registered in connection with illegal lottery since the time it was officially banned. There were 276 cases registered in this connection and Rajan was not an accused in a single case. Based on this, the investigating was intensified and it revealed that the KGF Excise & Lottery police had registered an FIR following pressure from the higher ups.”
He further said that local police after registering FIR against Rajan following police top brass order, planted lotteries in his residence to create evidence against him. “Rajan had surrendered before the police, but the police team took him to his house, where he and his family members were locked in the kitchen. Then the team kept illegal lotteries in his house and then formally arrested him and carried out the procedure of seizing illegal lotteries. This all happened in the presence of an officer of the rank of IGP. The entire team is in trouble now,” he added.
Several police officers including DG & IGP Om Prakash and Advisor to the Home Minister Kempaiah were questioned at the CBI head quarters in Delhi on Friday and have been summoned to appear before CBI officers to record their statement related to the case. Kempaiah after the questioning told reporters that the CBI had sought some documents related to the case and he had come to the headquarters to submit the same.
It may be recalled that the illegal lottery scam had rocked the ruling Congress-government with involvement of several top police officers were named in May 2015. IPS officer Alok Kumar, SPs (Excise & Lottery) H.R. Dharanendra and Chandrakanth were suspended following allegations of having contact with prime accused Rajan. The case which was earlier probed by CID was handed over to the CBI by the state government.
