Bangalore: State Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha said, 19.96 lakh new voters will exercise their franchise in the May 5 Assembly election.
Addressing press persons he said, around 6.16 lakh voters are newly added to the voters’ list in Bangalore itself adding that the Election Commission has kept about one lakh applications pending.
Jha said, though the Election Commission has directed the state body to quickly dispose the applications, it could not do so for the Assembly election due to the time constraint. However, he assured, the remaining applications will be cleared before the Lok Sabha elections.
Those voters who do not have a voter identity card can use any of the following identity proofs mentioned by the Election Commission, informed Jha.
Passport, Driving Licence, Pan card, Identity cards of State and Central government employees with photo, Passbook of nationalized banks and post office and Kissan passbook, Identity cards from recognized educational institutions, Property record with photo, Pension records of senior citizens and former armymen, Physical disability certificate, Freedom fighter’s identity card, Sandhya Suraksha card, NREGA employment card, Local body workers’ identity card, Senior citizen card issued by government departments, Health Insurance Card issued by Central Labour Department, RGI Smart card and Adhar card.
