Bengaluru: The recent search and seizure operations by Income Tax Department officials on premises belonging to Hoskote Congress MLA N. Nagaraju has allegedly led to uncovering of concealed income of nearly Rs. 190 crore, according to sources.
The sources said Nagaraju and his family members have allegedly admitted to concealed income exceeding Rs. 120 crore, apart from Rs. 70 crore received on land sales, where no capital gains were paid. I-T sleuths have also seized unexplained cash of Rs. 1.1 crore and 10 kg gold, the source said.
Nagaraju is the second Congress legislator to come under the Income Tax Department scanner in less than a month, after search operations against Small Scale Industries Minister Ramesh L. Jarkiholi. Sources also claimed that the I-T department has taken objection to Rs. 125 crore, an income related to running a Special Economic Zone for several years, shown as tax exempt. The I-T officials have also seized over 3,500 land property documents pertaining to ownership of 560 acres, which is still being verified.
The additional income that the legislator and family have now reportedly admitted to is in the form of unaccounted property investments and construction of commercial properties, residence and a hospital.
It also includes withdrawal of bogus unsecured loans against revenue receipts, the sources claimed, adding that properties under Joint Development Agreements were not declared and taxes unpaid.
