New Delhi: Fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya, who is facing extradition proceedings in UK, on Wednesday took to Twitter and drew similarities between him and Cafe Coffee Day founder VG Siddhartha.
Siddhartha, the coffee tycoon and son-in-law of former chief minister of Karnataka SM Krishna was found dead on Wednesday morning, at least 38 hours after he went missing from Nethravathi bridge in Mangaluru on Monday evening. Subsequently, in a letter addressed to his CCB Board members, Siddhartha had spoken eloquently about the alleged harassment by the Income Tax Department officials.
However, during wee hours of July 31, Mallya tweeted about Siddhartha and said, “I am indirectly related to VG Siddhartha. Excellent human and brilliant entrepreneur. I am devastated with the contents of his letter. The govt Agencies and Banks can drive anyone to despair. See what they are doing to me despite an offer of full repayment. Vicious and unrelenting,” he tweeted.
In his letter, Siddhartha had blamed one of his private equity partners for “creating pressure” to buy back stocks and mentioned about an IT department former DG who pushed his company into the depts of liquidity crunch.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear on August 2 a plea by Mallya challenging the confiscation of properties belonging to the companies owned by him and his family members.
