Bengaluru: Hyderabad Karnataka region, which comprises six districts has been now renamed as ‘Kalyana Karnataka region’. The term Kalyana Karnataka has its roots in the Vacahana movement of the 12th century.
A decision in this regard was taken in the state cabinet meeting held on Friday evening. Renaming his region was one of the key demands of the Lingayat community leaders from the region. This region is comprised of Kalaburugi, Raichur, Bidar, Yadagiri, Koppala and Ballari.
The demand for the renaming of the region first came up in 2008 when Yediyurappa was the Chief Minister for the first time.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders took a dig at state government’s decision. In a tweet Priyanka Kharge, former minister questioned whether government funding for the infra projects of the region will increase after the renaming of the entire region.
