Bengaluru: The home department is considering the proposal forwarded by the state police on registering non-bailable cases against all those who attack the police.
According to the sources, in last 10 days in Bengaluru alone six cases of attack on police have been reported, forcing the top police brass to act.
“Presently, attacks on police on duty are registered under various provisions of IPC which are bailable. Even if the police arrest accused they were granted bail easily. This has resulted in spurt in the cases of attack on police. So we have decided to bring changes in the existing provisions and make attack on police on duty a non bailable offence,” said a senior officer.
“The state government’s approval is required for this. We will soon hold a meeting in this regard,” he said.
