Bengaluru: The Yeshwantpur police are on the lookout for the driver of a car involved in a hit-and-run case, which claimed the life of a 74-year-old woman on Friday morning. The victim, identified as Aleyum Jacob, was crossing the road in Mathikere to reach her home after prayers at a nearby church.
The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on HMT Main Road when the driver hit her from behind and sped away. Passersby immediately took her to a nearby hospital but she died.
The police said Aoeyum Jacob was a teacher at a private school and after retirement, she used to take tuitions at her residence, the police said. Her husband K.J. Jacob and son live in Dubai.
The police are combing CCTV footage to identify the vehicle. However, the quality of footage obtained has been poor. “We have taken the statement of eyewitnesses,” a police official said.
Youth dies in accident
A 24-year-old person was killed and his friend was injured on Sunday night when their car crashed into a barricade separating the Kodigehalli service road from the highway. The police have identified the victim as Vasanth Kumar V, 24.
According to the police, Vasanth is from Mangaluru and was residing at Kodigehalli. He was on the way to drop his friend Bharath, 23, a resident of Gangenahalli. Vasanth died on the spot. Bharath was taken out from the overturned car by passers-by and cab drivers who took him to a nearby hospital.
