High jumper injured in tree fall

Bangalore : Karnataka high jumper K C Chandana suffered injuries when the branch of a tree fell on her two-wheeler in Bangalore on Wednesday.

Chandana, a native of Kukke Subramanya in Dakshina Kannada district, was returning after training at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium when the incident occurred at Cubbon Park. She was immediately rushed to St Marthas Hospital before being shifted to Hosmat Hospital. 

The 26-year-old will be out of action for at least a month as she fractured her thigh bone. 

The high jumper, who is employed with the Indian Railways, also suffered injuries on her face. 

“She was preparing for next months inter-state championships in Chennai and the training was going on well. It is really unfortunate,” said Chandanas coach G V Gaonkar.
