Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Monday rejected the plea of a 45-year-old man, who wanted a direction to the city police to permit him to use a helicopter to shower flower petals on his newly-built home during the house-warming ceremony.
Justice A.S. Bopanna, in his order, said that the petitioner has not stated which of his legal rights was violated by authorities in not considering his request while making it clear that the court cannot interfere in such cases.
Petitioner M. Muniraju is a resident of Mullur in Varthur hobli, Bengaluru East taluk. His name was removed from the rowdy sheet about a year ago. He had pointed out that the police had permitted use of a helicopter for showering flowers on a newly-built house of another person in the same village last year.
But they denied permission to him stating that flying a helicopter at a low level for showering flowers would affect the houses of economically weaker sections as their roofs are made up of sheets and other material that is not as strong as concrete.
The petitioner’s counsel said his client offers to take responsibility for any damage during the use of the helicopter while pointing out that the situation was the same even last year when police permitted M.K. Manohar to use a helicopter for the same purpose. The counsel accused the police of including the petitioner’s name in the rowdy sheet ‘for political purpose’ and for provoking neighbours into opposing the use of a helicopter.
