Bengaluru: In what may comes as a rather unexpected move, expectant mothers and their family members have been urging the Gynecologists to ensure that the childbirth does not happen on Monday, February 29.

The reason is simple. Feb 29 is a leap and birth on this day means birthday celebration once in four years!

The to-be mothers and their families have been urging the doctors either to postpone the delivery or advance the same.

Professor at Department of Obstetrics, Kims, Dr Sudha C?P has seen many such cases. “We see people from a wide range of socio-economic strata. Surprisingly, everyone seems to be conscious about it. If it is a normal delivery, we counsel the women to let the process happen naturally. Only if it is post-40 weeks and there is no sign of labour pain, we give a buffer time before or after and let the woman choose,” Dr Sudha is quoted in Deccan Herald.

Doctors across the country have heard such requests and many Gynecologists also add that such request of postponing or advancing deliveries are also made during other occasions like eclipse or a so called inauspicious days etc.

However, while the doctors budge down to the plea in some cases, they do not entertain such requests if the mother is running into normal delivery.
