Heavy showers cool Bengaluru, commuters stranded

Bengaluru: City residents enjoyed a second straight day of cooling showers on Friday when it rained continuously for nearly three hours. Good weather is likely to be seen on Saturday too.

What started as a hot day with a maximum temperatures at 34.6 degrees Celsius transformed into a cloudy afternoon before it finally start raining heavily just before 4 p.m.

Due to heavy downpour waterlogging in many parts of the city left commuters and others in lurch.

More than 7 trees were uprooted and tree branches fallen on the busy streets including Central Business District (CBD) deteriorated the peak hour traffic mess. Traffic movement came to almost standstill in several junctions.

Some parts of lower bund areas near Sampanagiram nagar, Sheshadripurm, Mahalaxmi layout and other areas were inundated.

Meanwhile, the Met department has predicted three more days of heavy downpour in the city.

Many vehicles got stuck in waterlogged areas near Kino junction, Jayanagar, Banashankari, Ulsoor and other areas.

Buses near Mysore road bus stand, Madivala, HSR Layout were stuck on roads due to waterlogging.

Many out station commuters were stranded at Majestic, Shanthinagar, and major bus stations.

The entire city received rainfall with the amount totalling 44 mm.

The net department predicted similar conditions for Saturday.
