Bengaluru: Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the seven matches of IPL T20 cricket tournament scheduled this season at M Chinnaswamy Stadium by the Bengaluru City police.

“The City police have tightened security in and around the stadium. The police have also ensured proper security for the audience inside the stadium,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order-West) Alok Kumar said.

“A total of 816 policemen, comprising two DCPs, 17 ACPs, 42 police inspectors, 82 sub-inspectors, 82 assistant sub-inspectors, 156 head constables and 348 constables would be pressed into security services. About 300 policemen from VVIP security and 10 platoons of KSRP would also be used for security purposes,” he added.

He said as many as 67 CCTV cameras have been installed inside and outside the stadium. The police would use unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), fitted with cameras. The drones will capture the movement of men and vehicles on the day of the match. The policemen would be given special jackets fitted with mobiles and cameras which will capture the happenings outside. The public will not be able to see the cameras fitted inside the jackets, he added.

All gates of the stadium would be opened three hours before the start of the matches. The public can enter inside the stadiums through gate numbers 1-9 on Queen’s Road and 17-21 on Link Road, he said.

There will be watchtowers to keep tabs on spectators and the entire stadium will be illuminated so that no untoward activities would go unnoticed. There will be three layers of frisking — one at the Mahatma Gandhi statue, another at the gates, the third at the entry points for spectators, said the police.

Bomb detection and disposal squad teams will frequently check out for explosives. Sniffer dogs will be put use by the police to trace suspicious objects, arms, weapons and explosives. Access control system has been set up to screen every individual entering the stadium.

The City police have requested the public to follow all security directives issued by the police and to co-operate accordingly.
