Bengaluru: Due to heavy downpour on September 24 late night, the residents in many areas were forced to spend a sleepless night. Many cars were found submerged in water. Rainwater gushed into over 350 houses located in Gottigere area. Many vehicles which are parked in the basement of the buildings were also seen submerged in water.
Meanwhile, rainwater entered the houses of many at Lakkanna Lane, Lakshmayya Lane and Sapthagiri Lane. Within an hour after the heavy downpour, the low lying areas started getting waterlogged and it extended to other places also. Most of the complaints included waterlogging in residential and commercial areas.
The plight of the residents of General Insurance Corporation (GIC) Lane was also not different. Many motorcycles and cars were trapped in the stormwater. The residents complained that their locality was deprived of some basic necessities including proper drainage facility. No measures were taken to asphalting the road, they complained.
Deepika Pandith, a resident of Gottigere informed that the basement and the first floor of their apartment building were submerged. “I was not serious when the rain started at around 10 PM. However, I worried when there was continuous rain until late at night. We did not sleep the whole night,” she said. The flooding also saw snakes wading in the water.
