Bengaluru: The state high court, on August 3, upheld the teachers’ transfer policy order of the state government while quashing all the writ petitions filed by the teachers in this regard. As per the transfer policy order, primary and high school teachers will be required to mandatorily serve in the rural areas for 10 years.
The order comes as a relief for many students studying in rural areas.
It may be recalled that several teachers, especially those serving in urban areas of the state, had moved the high court seeking relief from the changes brought about by the state primary and secondary education department to the teacher’s transfer policy, including the mandatory 10 years rural service.
Following the high court’s directive, the department is expected to start the transfer process from August 6 onwards.
According to sources in the Department of Public Instruction (DPI), this year, the transfer limit has been increased from earlier 10% to 18%. More than 55,000 teachers have submitted an application seeking a transfer.
