HC to South Western Railways: Examine complaint on illegal operation of special train

Mysuru/Bengaluru: The High Court on Friday directed the General Manager, South Western Railway (SWR), to hold a meeting to examine a complaint on the illegal operation of a special train from Mysuru to Allahabad last November for SWR Mazdoor Union members to attend a national convention of the All-India Railwaymen Federation.

Central Railway Workshop going all out in its efforts to fix bio-toilets in train coaches-1A Division Bench passed this order while disposing of a PIL petition filed by Ravindra Naidu.

The Bench has also directed the General Manager to pass a speaking order in a month after hearing all persons concerned within a month from the receipt of a representation from the petitioner.

The petitioner claimed that the train was operated by misinterpreting a circular of the Railway Board on operating special trains to clear rush and also alleged that the authorities had not verified the list of union members, who were granted leave to attend the conference, before allotting a the train for free. It was claimed in the petition that the number of members with leaves and passes were less than the 1,264 seats available in the train.
