Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has slammed the state government for delaying the vacation of religious centres that have illegally encroached public property.

In its hearing on the case on Monday, January 6, the court said that the state government had failed to implement its and the Supreme Court’s orders in this matter.

It asked the government, “How ethical it is to allow religious centres to function in the name of God when they have illegally encroached public property? Isn’t the government interested or bothered about it?

The court also dismissed the assurance letter filed by the Chief Secretary of the Karnataka Government stating that it would implement the orders by March 31 and postponed the hearing on the case to February 4 by directing him to file a new assurance letter.
