Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition, which had questioned the global tender invited by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for implementing the new energy-efficient street light project.

Justice Vineet Kothari passed the order while dismissing the petition filed by the BBMP Power Contractors’ Association alleging that the tender process violated the law besides depriving the existing electricity contractors from bidding by making tender conditions in favour of multi-national companies.

The High Court did not agree with the contentions in the petition. Under the project, the selected energy service company (ESCO) will have to replace all the 4.85 lakh existing conventional street lights with energy-efficient LED lights having provision for dimming lights, install closed circuit cameras and pollution sensors with a common control room.

The civic body has claimed that the projects could save Rs. 100 crore a year.
