Bengaluru: A 35-year-old woman approached the police and begged to be reunited with her baby after she gave it away through illegal adoption, according to a report by TOI.
The mother, an assistant professor, made the decision to give away her 53-day-old infant as she found it difficult to raise him. However, she was soon overcome with guilt and reportedly changed her mind about the adoption.
Owing to the police’s prompt response, the infant was recovered from a Mysuru-based couple on Thursday, January 2. After handing him over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Bengaluru, police filed complaints against the birth parents for attempting to sell the baby. Another person, who acted as a middleman in the transaction, has also been charged in the case.
Speaking to TOI, a police officer involved in the case said, “Raksha (name changed) and Suresh (name changed) are professionals and could not devote enough time to the child. It appears there was no money involved. We have booked the couple and Shiv under sections 80, 81 and 87 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
“We are still probing all angles. Raksha keeps changing her statement. All those involved will have to appear before the CWC,” he added.
