BENGALURU: In a turn of events on Wednesday afternoon, the police detained hundreds of guest lecturers who were partaking in a padayatra to Bengaluru, advocating for the regularization of their jobs. The detention took place at 8th Mile, after which the lecturers were promptly transported to Freedom Park. Upon entering the city, the police intervened, preventing the marchers from proceeding further to avert potential traffic chaos.
These guest lecturers, employed in government first-grade colleges across the state, initiated the padayatra from Siddaganga Mutt in Tumakuru on January 1. Their ultimate plan was to convene a massive rally at Freedom Park on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, Aam Aadmi Party state chief and former MLA Mukyamantri Chandru engaged with the guest lecturers in Nelamangala. He used the opportunity to implore the state government to regularize their services, drawing inspiration from the Delhi AAP government model.
