Bengaluru: One of the most important landmarks near the Kempegowda International Airport, Devenahalli is the Sadahalli gate. If you visit this area, you will find a pharmacy where you can get most of the medicines and healthcare products at affordable rates. This is how the Doddajala grama panchayat is revolutionising primary care in the village.

With the idea of ensuring affordable medicine, the grama panchayat opened up ‘Namma Medicals’ which is the first medical store to be set up by a grama panchayat in the entire state. Over 1,000 medicines are sold here and they are 40% cheaper compared to private medical stores.

According to the authorities, most of the generic medicines will be sold here. “The idea is to ensure better healthcare facilities for all the villagers,” said officials from the grama panchayat.

The new medical store was inaugurated by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Sunday, June 30 evening.
