Govt will take measures to increase reservation quota: CM

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday said that the government will take steps to increase the reservation quota in employment and education from the present 50 per cent to 75 per cent.

CM to Modi: Waive off farm loans-1The Chief Minister made the announcement at a programme organised by the Federation of Dalit Organisations to thank him for announcing several welfare schemes in the State Budget for the year 2017-18 presented by him. Siddaramaiah said that a unanimous resolution would be passed in the State legislature seeking to increase the reservation quota to 75 per cent.

The same would be sent to the Centre for approval and further formalities, he said.

“The government will take the initiative of moving the resolution. It has to be constitutionally amended in Parliament as the Supreme Court has put a 50% cap on reservations,” Siddaramaiah said.
