Bengaluru: Minister for Bengaluru Development K J George on Saturday said the state government would go ahead with the construction of steel flyover between Basaveswara Circle and Hebbal despite objections from some people.
Speaking with media persons on the sidelines of a function organized by the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) to commence some developmental works at Kottigepalya and Lakshmi Devinagar wards, Minister George said that some people have approached the High Court questioning the state government on the need of taking up such infrastructure project. “The High Court has directed the state government to commence the construction of the steel flyover as early as possible,” George said.
The minister said the steel flyover project was proposed in the state budget two years ago. “The Cabinet has also discussed about it and taken a decision to go ahead with the project. It is unfortunate that despite of having discussions on this project, some people are unnecessarily raking up this issue again and again,” the minister said.
He said the proposed steel flyover would not only benefit those who go to Kempe Gowda International Airport but also people from Hebbal, Byatarayanapura and other areas would also benefited from this project. “Some people are telling that state government can purchase 3,000 buses with the budget amount allocated for the construction of the steel flyover. Our chief minister has also allocated funds for purchase of new buses apart from allocating funds for the steel flyover. Some people are criticizing the government for deciding to take up this project since it requires to cut around 800 trees but the BDA has made arrangements to plant 60,000 saplings in Bengaluru,” he said.
