Bengaluru: Public Works Department Minister C. C. Patil announced on Tuesday April 19 that the government will clear pending bills of work worth Rs. 4,000 Crore implemented by contractors.
“My predecessors had given work orders, giving in to the pressure of party workers, which resulted in pending bills, but we have been clearing them,” he said.
The department has been successful in developing roads at a cost of Rs. 2,500 Crore, and the tender process for further road works worth Rs. 2,500 Crore has been completed, he said, adding that a scientific remedy for at least 70 accident-prone sites has been planned.
At a cost of Rs. 200 Crore, over 1,335 feet over bridges will be built in the coastal and Malnad regions, while bridges that were destroyed by floods across the State will be reconstructed at a cost of Rs. 610 Crore, he added.
The Minister clarified that the Peenya flyover issue had been brought to the attention of Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and that the NHAI would investigate why it was not suitable for heavy vehicles. The 119-kilometre Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway project is expected to be finished by the end of 2022, informed the Minister.
