Bengaluru: To ensure transparency in administration, the State Government has issued a circular mandating all Government offices to maintain a “Cash Declaration Register.”
According to a circular issued by Chief Secretary P. Ravikumar, all government employees must self-declare the cash they have with them every morning in the register. The decision was made in response to a writ petition filed at the high court, which demanded that such a register be kept in all Government offices.
The circular also state that a Group ‘B’ officer of a section of a Government Department, Board, or Corporation will keep a close eye on the register. He has the authority to check if each employee’s declaration is true or not.
‘If any employee is found in possession of cash in exceeding the amount declared in the register, it will be regarded illegal gratification, and it will be the employee’s responsibility to prove that the extra money found is legal,” the circular stated.
Senior officials or empowered authorities can inspect the register at any time.
