Bangalore: An independent physiotherapy council will be formed by the state government, said Health minister U T Khader on Sunday.
A committee will be formed to establish the said council and it will take appropriate decisions, Khader said in his address to the state physiotherapy conference organised by the Bangalore Physiotherapist Network (BPN) which had made a request in that regard to the government.
The minister also directed Dhanya Kumar, the Director of Health and Family Welfare, to recruit BPTs (Bachelors of Physiotherapy) and MPTs (Masters of Physiotherapy) as physiotherapists from now on, instead of DPT holders (Diploma in Physiotherapy).
Khader is also keen on organising state-level workshops for physiotherapists to ensure their technological advancement and provide better service to the public.
Mr.Kumar said more physiotherapists would be recruited in government hospitals in taluks and districts as there is a shortage of adequate staff.
