Bengaluru: Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Saturday said the government will soon set up police outposts near women’s colleges and other educational institutions.
The move comes close on the heels of bike-borne miscreants attacking students of Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology. Earlier last year, a man entering Maharani’s College girl’s hostel and stealing undergarments had caused a major embarrassment to police and the government.
The home minister said such outposts will give easy access to help girls in particular and students in general. “The nuances of the proposal need to be worked out by police,” the minister said.
The minister said the cops were asked to act sternly against miscreants attacking on-duty police officials. “Such incidents send wrong messages to the society,” he said.
It is learnt the minister, during the interaction with the senior police officials, including Bengaluru City Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar, directed the police not to book traffic offenders under section 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
