Bengaluru: The State government on Saturday constituted a committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary T.M. Vijay Bhaskar and Development Commissioner D.V. Prasad to look into the long-pending demands of the Movement for the Rights of Landless and Shelterless (MRLS).

The decision to constitute the committee was taken after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met representatives of MRLS, led by freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy, and the heads of the departments of Revenue, Forest, and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj. According to an official release, the committee will meet on a regular basis and examine the demands put forth by MRLS.

On January 10, Doreswamy launched an indefinite dharna demanding that the government keep its promise of distributing reclaimed government land to landless labourers.
