Bengaluru: In a significant ceremony conducted during Bangalore University’s 58th convocation, the esteemed Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, conferred honorary doctorates upon notable individuals, including former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and distinguished Scientist and ISRO Chairman, Shri Somnath.
In a notable double recognition, Bengaluru University not only celebrated the illustrious career of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda but also acknowledged the remarkable contributions of Scientist and ISRO Chairman Shri Somnath.
Addressing the audience, Governor Gehlot expressed his delight at the University’s decision to recognize Shri Deve Gowda, a stalwart in Indian politics, whose invaluable contributions to education, literature, and social development have significantly advanced the nation’s progress. He also conveyed his regards to Honorable Shri Somnath, Scientist and Chairman of ISRO, who, although unable to attend in person, received the Honorary Doctorate Degree. The Governor acknowledged the circumstances that prevented Shri Somnath from participating in the ceremony and expressed his hope for the enduring impact of their contributions on society.
Governor Gehlot underscored the vital role of Karnataka as a leader in education, information, and technology within the nation. He praised Bangalore University’s pivotal position in this context and recognized its A++ grade accreditation by NAAC in 2023.
Furthermore, Governor Gehlot encouraged students to embark on the entrepreneurial path, envisioning them as future leaders and job creators rather than mere job seekers. He emphasized the crucial role of education in equipping the youth with technical skills and highlighted their role in driving initiatives like “Make in India,” “Digital India,” and various venture capital schemes.
Reflecting on India’s remarkable progress in the 75 years since independence, Governor Gehlot expressed confidence in the nation’s trajectory toward becoming the world’s third-largest economy. He stressed the collective responsibility in shaping the next 24 years into a golden era of nation-building.
The event featured the presence of dignitaries including the Honorable former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, Higher Education Minister Dr. MC Sudhakar, co-founder of Zarodha Nikhil Kamath, and Vice Chancellor Dr. Jayakar S.M.
