Mysuru: The district administration has decided to take a break from tradition by lighting up the Mysuru Palace at the stroke of midnight on December 31, to herald New Year 2017.

Disclosing the details, Deputy Commissioner D Randeep said, “The flower show at the palace ends tonight and managing the crowd for an additional three hours on New Years’ eve is not difficult. Visitors and tourists can enjoy the glittering sight of the palace at the stroke of midnight.”

Traditionally, the lights of the palace are illuminated on Sundays and public holidays from 7pm to 7.30pm where public enjoy the spectacle.

The flower show in progress and the cake exhibition held recently are attempts by the district administration to woo tourists back into the cultural city. It may be recalled that the Dasara celebrations were marred by violence in the aftermath of Cauvery water dispute and drought situation in the state.

On December 29, the district administration unveiled a three-day cultural festival as a part of its agenda to draw more tourists.

Playback singers Ajay and M D Pallavi have been roped in to perform on Saturday and Sunday.

The police department has extended its support and assured of providing adequate security in the city tonight.
