Bengaluru: Former CM HD Kumaraswamy, who is on a vacation in Singapore, has warned the state government against renaming Ramanagar district.
It can be recalled that the state government is planning to rename the district as ‘Nava Bengaluru’ district. The government also wants to create a Greater Bengaluru district by merging Ramanagar and Bengaluru Rural districts.
In a series of tweets, with the hashtag #saveramanagara, he questioned the motive behind renaming the district.
“How renaming will help the district to achieve more development,” he questioned.
“Ramanagar was earlier called Klosepet. It was renamed as Ramanagar by Kengal Hanumanataiah. Today, Ramanagar is facing a lot of challenges due to Bengaluru. The agriculture is destroyed in the district due to real estate and industrialization. Why has this name changing initiative been taken up now,” he questioned.
“If the state government tries to rename the district, I will not sit silently,” he warned.
