Bengaluru: Former state convener of Bajrang Dal Mahendra Kumar died on Saturday due to heart attack at a private hospital in Bengaluru.

Kumar had complained of chest pain and was taken to a hospital, but he died due to a heart attack, said sources.

It may be recalled that Kumar’s name hit the headlines after the infamous Church attack in Mangaluru in 2008.

Soon after this, he broke away from the Saffron brigade and started identifying himself with organisations that were in contrary to the Saffron ideology.

He had been vocal of late in criticising the saffron brigade and the BJP government.

He is survived by his wife and two children.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, former Chief Ministers Siddaramaiah and HD Kumaraswamy and others have condoled his death.
