Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president B.S. Yeddyurappa on Thursday demanded Chief Minister Siddaramaiah not only resigning from the post but also handover the case of Deputy Superintendent of Police M.K.Ganapati’s suicide to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the wake of Forensics Department’s findings on destroying vital evidence pertaining to Ganapati’s death.

“I will meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on August 26 (Saturday) and submit a memorandum seeking a CBI probe into Ganapati’s suicide case,’’ Yeddyurappa told reporters at BJP state office in Bengaluru.

The BJP state president said the BJP demanded a CBI probe when the names of Minister K.J. George and police officers Pranab Mohanty and K.M. Prasad were cropped up but the state government has covered up the case by ordering a probe by Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

“Now, it appears that chief minister Siddaramaiah has ordered a CID probe into DySP Ganapati’s suicide case to re-induct K.J. George into the Cabinet. The chief minister has misused the CID to give a clean chit to George in this case,’’ the BJP state president said.

He said the CBI probe would bring guilty to book involved in destroying the evidence and deleting the information from late Ganapati’s phone.

“Media has exposed the government that has stopped such a low level to destroy the evidence in this case. I demand the chief minister quit immediately. BJP will organize a protest if the chief minister fails to submit his resignation,’’ he said.

He has also suspected the role of Kempaiah, advisor to chief minister Siddaramaiah, in destroying the evidence in DySP Ganapati’s suicide case.

Commenting on Kempanna Commission submitting its report on Arkavathy Layout denotification case, he said the report has no value. “Siddaramaiah has constituted Kempanna Commission to get a clean chit from it in the Arkavathy Layout denotification case. So, there is no need for anyone to take into consideration,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, R Ashok, deputy leader of opposition in the legislative assembly, challenged chief minister Siddaramaiah to dissolve the Assembly and go for elections if he believes the C Fore survey report on the prospects of Congress returning to power in Karnataka.

A pre-poll survey conducted by C Fore has predicted a Congress win, if the elections were to be held. C Fore, a research organisation has predicted that Congress might win 120 to 132 seats, while the BJP would finish second with 60 to 72 seats. JD(S) meanwhile is expected to win 24 to 30 seats in the 225-member assembly.

Conducted across 165 constituencies, the survey used a random sample of 24,679 respondents between July 19 and August 10, 2017. When it comes to vote share, the survey predicts Congress bagging 43 per cent, while BJP and JD(s) will get 32 per cent and 17 per cent.
