Bengaluru: Heavy rains lashed many cities along the coastal region of Karnataka, leading to flooding, property damage and unfortunate loss of life. Considering that Bengaluru is prone to flooding in certain areas, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) issued a flood warning for the city in the coming 24 hours (today, June 3).

The KSNDMC has warned that low lying areas in the city’s five zones are vulnerable to flooding. The alert reads: “According to the forecasted rain, flood vulnerable locations in Rajarajeshwari Nagar zone, East zone, South zone, Mahadevapura zone and Bommanahalli zone are expected to get severe inundation.”

The disaster centre has also warned that there might be moderate inundation in the West and Dasanapura zones.

Anti-encroachment drive on drains to resume soon

Earlier today, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy mulled over a tour of the city on Monday, June 4 after having assessed the situation with civic agencies. He assured that the anti-encroachment drive on stormwater drains will resume soon, as these encroachments were one of the causes of the frequent flooding in the city, causing a great deal of havoc.
