Bengaluru: Cycling is one of the favorite activities of fitness freaks. Now the same is used to provide last mile protection to the city residents.

For the first time in the country, the city police launched the pedal police beat system. As many as five police constables will use the bicycles in the Cubbon Park police limits.

The project has been taken up on a pilot basis as of now it will be extended to other police stations after analysing the feedback for the beat started at Cubbon Park.

It can be recalled that in the earlier days when the concept of the bike was not there, the police were using the bicycles to provide security. City police commissioner Bhaskar Rao launched this new beat by peddling bicycle in Cubbon Park.

He announced that this system will be extended to more police stations in the city in the coming days.

“Every station will get five bicycles. The idea is that the police can reach those areas which can’t be served using four-wheelers or bikes using these bicycles,” he explained.
