Bengaluru: The Whitefield police have registered an first information report (FIR) against two surgeons of Vydehi Hospital for allegedly misplacing a piece of a patient’s skull while performing a surgery last year.

The police registered an FIR against Dr. Guru Prasad and Dr. Rajesh charging them under Section 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) on Friday.

According to Rukminiyama, 45, who lodged the police complaint, her 25-year-old son Manjunath is a wall painter in Kalyana Nagar in Chikkamagaluru. He had been admitted to Vydehi hospital as he suffered from severe headache. After tests, he was advised to undergo surgery immediately as there was a clot in his brain. The family borrowed money and sold Manjunath’s motorcycle to pay for the treatment.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Guru Prasad in February 2017. Manjunath was discharged a few days later.

However, a few months ago, the headaches resumed and they were as bad as ever, said Rukminiyama. They consulted different doctors and were recently informed by a local doctor that a piece of his skull was missing.

Rukminiyama returned to Vydehi Hospital and sought an explanation. She alleged that the doctors told her that they had thrown it in the dustbin.
