Bengaluru: Kannada film director AMR Ramesh’s plan to make a feature film on the killing of Gauri Lankesh has hit a hurdle, with her mother Indira Lankesh asking the director to refrain from going ahead.
Ramesh is known for making films on Sandalwood smuggler Veerappan and on the murder of Rajiv Gandhi and one more film on Ayodhya riots.
Shankarappa, an advocate on behalf of Ms. Indira, has issued legal notices to Ramesh and to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce directing it not to register the title of the film. The notice cautions of filing civil and criminal cases against Ramesh if he goes ahead with the project and Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) if it registers the title of the film.
Confirming the receipt of the legal notice, Ramesh said that he had no intention of discrediting Gauri Lankesh, whom he knew personally. “I will respond through my legal team,” the director said.
