Bengaluru: Relatives of Samera Baanu (28) and her daughter Ayera Banu (5), who died in a cylinder blast during the shooting of Sandalwood film “Ranam”, held a protest in front of the Bagalur police station on Sunday, March 31. When police didn’t respond, a few of them climbed a nearby mobile tower seeking justice. The police finally coaxed them into coming down by assuring that they would take action in the next 24 hours.
It all started on Sunday afternoon when hundreds of the victims’ relatives arrived near the Bagalur police station. They alleged that, even though the incident happened three days ago, no one from the film crew had been arrested and no compensation was given to the deceased’s families.
When police didn’t respond, a few of the relatives climbed the mobile tower, leading to a rise in tensions. These relatives warned that they would not alight from the tower until the police arrested the accused and announce compensation to the bereaved families.
Later, senior police officers rushed to the spot and assured that action would be taken. It was only then that the relatives came down.
