Bengaluru: From September 1 onwards, if any person in the city hands over unsegregated waste to the pourakarmikas, they will be penalised with a fine of Rs 1,000 on the spot.
With the idea of making the city cleaner and finding a solution to the waste management challenges, the BBMP has decided to start penalising households that fail to segregate waste.
According to BBMP commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad, as per the new rules, even pourakarmikas who collect unsegregated waste will get penalised. The amount of fine for the pourakarmikas has, however, not yet been finalised.
“The general public can hand over dry waste to the pourakarmikas only twice a week. Rest of the days, only wet waste will be collected,” he explained.
He also stated that all the major city roads will be brought under CCTV surveillance in the coming days to ensure that no one will throw garbage in open spaces. “As many as 233 additional marshals will be hired to monitor black spots,” he added.
